A Counter-Strike: Global Offensive match shattered a Twitch viewership record Sunday, reaching over 1 million concurrent viewers during the exciting finish of the ELeague Major.
Gaming vet Matt McCloskey — former chief operating officer of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, the studio that maintains the “Halo” franchise — is joining Twitch in the newly created role of VP of commerce.
At Twitch, McCloskey will be responsible for growing economic activity on the platform to help support content creators, specifically focused on the current Cheering and Bits program (which lets fans purchase emoji to “cheer” for their favorite gamers) and streamer subscriptions businesses. Following the reveal of its new IRL section, streaming giant Twitch is hoping to attract more international visitors to this year’s TwitchCon by moving to a new, better-connected venue. Twitch announced that they will be hosting a gaming event live from the White House on December 12th. The ‘White House Competitive Gaming Event’ is meant to raise awareness about health insurance.
The event will last from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST. You will be able to watch the stream here. It is the first time the White House has hosted such an event.
