Chat Mentions Comes To Mobile

Starting today, you’ll be able to use Chat Mentions on both iOS and Android. Just like web, when you mention someone in chat, that name will be bolded in the mentioned user’s selected chat color.

To mention someone, type @ or tap on a username within the chat window. From there, you can choose to mention (happy face) or ignore a user (sad face). If you’re the moderator of a channel, you’ll also see options to time-out or ban someone. Note: You can still moderate using the viewer list.

To try these features now, update your app via Google Play or the App Store.

One of the growing trends to emerge from online poker’s post-Black Friday reconstruction period is the integration of live video streaming for the purpose of interactive instruction. Typically broadcasting via the Twitchplatform — a pioneering industry leader in the live streaming game — several well-respected poker pros have established themselves with must-see streams.

At any given time you can find Randy “nanonoko” Lew, Jaime “PokerStaples” Staples, Felix “xflixx” Schneiders, and many others playing on their respective (and popular) Twitch channels. Even Chris Moneymaker— the central figure in that earlier “boom” in poker over a decade ago — is now among those live streaming their online sessions for the world to watch.

Flash game portal Newgrounds turns 20 years old today

Now I feel old

These days, Tom Fulp is probably best known for his work with The Behemoth, behind games like Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Way back in the day, I knew him as the guy in charge of Newgrounds. I spent a ton of time (probably too much) in high school playing free Flash games on the site. I still remember playing through Pico’s School, a point-and-click adventure about a school shooting. It hasn’t exactly aged well (unless you count the more recent remakes), but it still reminds me of being a kid, playing morbid video games when I should have been doing homework.

Newgrounds has grown a lot since the early days, becoming a place for a huge number of creators to put up content of varying quality. It even became the birthplace of some big names in games today like The Binding of Isaac.

Newgrounds turns 20 years old today, and to celebrate, Fulp and company are streaming a bevy of the site’s hosted games on Twitch.

Team2G allegedly trademarks ‘sub wars,’ threatens violators

An organization that includes some of Twitch’s most popular streamers has been accused of using aggressive trademark legislature against competitors. Team 2G, a collective that hosts personalities such as Tim “Trick2G” Foley and Akinola “Blakinola” Verissimo, has allegedly filed a trademark for the term “sub wars” and is being accused of trying to prevent anyone from outside of the organization using it.

The term “sub wars” refers to when people who subscribe to a Twitch channel are invited to compete against each other or the streamer they support. They’ve proven a popular way for personalities to interact with fans, but they’re  are also popular with viewers, as the streamer will often add their own commentary or perspective on the actions of those in the spotlight. It can be a tool for learning or a means for comedy, depending on the direction the broadcaster wants to go in.
